My sister-in-law in Texas recently e-mailed a blog post from Andy Andrews, an author and inspirer extraordinaire. Initially Andy rambles explaining to us that he’s wrestling with important questions about changes in American culture and the meaning to our lives.

One paragraph especially caught my attention. He says, “For a long time in my life, I believed that to change the world, I should stretch as high into society as I could possibly reach, touching Presidents and Kings and CEO’s. There, I thought, was where the power existed to change everything. I now know for a fact that the power to change everything, my friend. . . lies with you and me.” (emphasis mine)

And we must add, “and God.”

Since I became a Christian (later in life because I ran for years from the greatest gift of all), I’ve often said we have to give God something to work with. Oh yes, that starts with me and you. We yield; He works.

The state of our country is dire. It’s lost connection to the real intent of our founding fathers, lost connection to “in God we trust.” Leadership has run amok in government, business and at home. People often don’t recognize their own leadership roles. We’re all leaders. We all influence.

As fully devoted followers of Jesus, we have a responsibility to fully exercise our leadership capabilities. Some will lead as moms and dads, others as friends and co-workers, supervisors, managers, pastors, lay leaders, CEO’s. We all influence. We all lead.

We all must lead. Christians must reclaim for our country and the world the servant heart of the greatest leader of all time. We must seize it and share it. We must be the beacon of hope, the light on the lighthouse we’re called to be in the world.

Set apart and serving, not being served. We must show the world how to lead like Jesus led.

We can start as individuals, groups, organizations. . . where ever we find ourselves in positions to influence. The mission field is right where we are. We must go boldly into it.

Let’s do it. Let’s lead like God intended. Let’s lead like Jesus led.

This last week of April 2009 we launch the SERViNGLEADERZ website. God is always up to something and it’s good to be a part of His creation. In months and years ahead, we’re looking forward to sharing and receiving around set apart leadership in today’s world. Join us on the journey and we’ll explore it together.

Romans 12:1-2 tells us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices as a spiritual act of worship. This passage further says we are not to be conformed to this world but we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We respond to God in this way so we will be able to test and approve his good, pleasing and perfect will.

This week ponder what this passage suggests to you for your leadership. Is there something about the worldly ways of leadership that you see in yourself and you would like to modify them? What one step can you take this week to make an eternal difference in your leadership?
